What happens when the voices in our heads end up creating suffering?

Both psychology and dharma teachings have great insights into how our internal narratives dictate our emotions, our behaviors, and our sense of self. In the non-dual traditions, we are often asked to investigate:

What is the internal narrator?
Is it the Self speaking?
Is the self a solid entity, or is it a process?

For centuries, meditators have observed that what we call the “I” is actually a fluid stream of thoughts, memories, and sensations. Now, modern neuroscience is catching up to this ancient wisdom and even recognizes the particular regions and processes in the brain that work to weave these disparate threads into a coherent “story of me.”

Obviously, the “story of me" can become a source of suffering.

What happens when the “narrator” in our heads appears to turn against us?

What happens when we learn to discern between the many voices in our head and discover our intuitive voice?

My colleague, Kula and Yogini sister, Kelly Blaser, has invited me to explore this profound territory in Season 9 of The Power of Meditation Summit.
